Payment Methods

Rodavia connects you with local rental companies, so payment happens in two stages. You pay a booking advance online when you confirm, then settle the balance directly with the rental company at their desk in Madeira.

Booking Advance Online

The advance payment secures your reservation. We accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards through a secure gateway. This amount is part of the total rental cost; the exact split appears in your voucher.

Balance at Pickup

The remaining amount is due at the rental desk. Payment methods vary by company - some accept debit cards, others require credit cards, and a few take cash. Your voucher lists the accepted methods for your booking.

Check the voucher before you travel. If the company requires a credit card and you only have debit, contact us early so we can look for alternatives.

Deposit at the Counter

Rental companies place a hold on your card as security. The deposit amount and accepted card types depend on the vehicle category and insurance option you choose. This hold is released after you return the vehicle undamaged with a full tank.

Debit cards are rarely accepted for the deposit hold, even when allowed for the rental balance. The voucher specifies deposit requirements.

Currency and Processing

All transactions process in euros. The booking advance goes through our payment partner; the balance and deposit are handled directly by the rental company at their Madeira location, usually near Funchal or at the FNC airport in Santa Cruz.
